Biography: Ernesto Teodoro Moneta was an Italian journalist, nationalist, and key figure in the Risorgimento movement. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1907, sharing the honor with French economist Louis Renault, "for his work in the press and in peace meetings, both public and private, for an understanding between France and Italy."

In 1867, Moneta became the editor of the Milan newspaper Il Secolo, a position he held for almost forty years. He used his platform to spread his ideas and rally support for Italian nationalism and the Risorgimento movement, which sought to consolidate the various states of the Italian peninsula into a single Kingdom of Italy.

After the successful unification of Italy in 1870, Moneta's focus shifted towards promoting peace in Europe. He became an influential voice in the peace movement, advocating for arbitration and dialogue as means of settling international disputes. His efforts culminated in his co-founding of the Lombard Association for Peace and Arbitration in 1887, which advocated for resolving disputes through arbitration rather than warfare.
