Biography: Fay Vincent is an American attorney and sports executive who served as the eighth Commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1989 to 1992. Taking the helm after the sudden death of his predecessor, A. Bartlett Giamatti, Vincent inherited a league faced with numerous challenges ranging from labor relations to drug scandals.

He is perhaps most remembered for his handling of the 1989 World Series, which was interrupted by the Loma Prieta earthquake. Vincent earned praise for his approach to the natural disaster, postponing the series and focusing on public safety.

Under Vincent the league expanded its playoff format and instituted policies to deal with substance abuse. His reign was marked by tension with team owners, however, particularly over financial and labor issues. The owners eventually forced Vincent's resignation in 1992, citing dissatisfaction with his management style and decisions.
