Biography: Served as the 83rd Attorney General of the United States from 2015 to 2017, Lynch is a Harvard educated lawyer who as worked as both a government prosecutor and in the private sector.

Lynch earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and American literature from Harvard College in 1981 and her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1984. After starting her career in the private sector, she joined the Eastern District of the US Department of Justice in 1990 and serving as its head form 1999-2001. Lynch oversaw prosecution of New York City police officers in the Abner Louima case.

She returned to the private sector from 2001 to 2010, until being nominated to again lead the Eastern District. In 2014, she was nominated by Barack Obama to replace the outgoing US Attorney General Eric Holder. She took office after Senate confirmation in early 2015 and the new administration took office in 2017.
