Biography: Gail Borden was an American inventor, surveyor, and publisher. He is best known for developing a method to condense milk, a process that significantly extended the product's shelf life. This innovation was particularly crucial during the Civil War, providing a reliable source of milk to Union troops.

Prior to his work with condensed milk, Borden dabbled in a variety of ventures. He co-plotted the cities of Houston and Galveston in Texas, and served as the Collector of Customs at Galveston. Borden also co-founded a newspaper, the Telegraph and Texas Register, which was influential in advocating for Texas's independence.

Despite initial failures and bankruptcy, Borden's persistence led to his eventual success with condensed milk. His Borden Company became a significant American dairy brand and remained an enduring market presence only to eventually declare bankruptcy and be sold in 2020.
