Biography: Cukor was a prominent director at RKO studios, where the head of production, David O. Selznick, assigned him to direct several of their movies including What Price Hollywood? (1932), A Bill of Divorcement (1932) and Our Betters (1933). He would later move to MGM and direct several successful features there.
He was originally slated to produce the classic Gone With the Wind (1939) but was replaced when Selznick voiced dissatisfaction with Cukor's slow pace of work. Nevertheless he completed several successful films later in his career, including The Philadelphia Story (1940), Gaslight (1944), and A Star Is Born (1954).
