Biography: The Scottish-born chef is as famous for his angry, expletive TV persona as he is for his high class award-winning restaurants.

Originally Ramsay tried to become a professional footballer before an injury ended his dream. After training under such high profile London chefs are Marco Pierre White and Albert Roux as well as in France, Gordon became head chef at the London restaurant Aubergine in 1996, which went on to win three prestigious Michelin stars. In 1998 he went one further opening his own restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which also went on to be awarded three Michelin stars. A number of additional restaurants followed including Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, the Savoy Grill and establishments in the US and around the world.

Ramsay's fame is fueled by his high profile TV appearances, which began in the UK in 1999 in the documentary "Boiling Point" and led to a number of reality TV shows including "Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares", and "Hell's Kitchen", both of which spawned US versions. From 2010 Ramsay was a judge and producer on the popular competition show "Masterchef".

Ramsay is also the author of a number of cookbooks and autobiographies.
