Biography: Judith Sheindlin, better known as Judge Judy, is an American television personality, former New York family court judge, and author. She is famous for her long-running courtroom television series "Judge Judy" (1996-2021), which made her a pop culture icon and the longest-serving television arbitrator in courtroom programming history.

Sheindlin began her legal career as a prosecutor in the New York family court system in 1972, handling cases involving child abuse, domestic violence, and juvenile offenders. She gained a reputation for her toughness and was appointed as a criminal court judge by New York Mayor Ed Koch in 1982.

Sheindlin's rise to fame began in 1993 when she was featured in a Los Angeles Times article and profiled on CBS's "60 Minutes." This national recognition led to the eventual debut of her court show "Judge Judy" in 1996, which became the highest-rated show in daytime television from 2009 to 2021.

Throughout her career, Sheindlin has received numerous awards and honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 and recognition from Guinness World Records in 2015. She has also authored several books, such as "Don't Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining" (1996) and "Beauty Fades, Dumb Is Forever" (1999).

After 25 seasons of "Judge Judy," Sheindlin launched a new streaming series, "Judy Justice," on Amazon Freevee in 2021. The show won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program in 2022, making her the only television judge to win the award for more than one court show.

In her personal life, Sheindlin has been married twice, first to Ronald Levy from 1964 to 1976, with whom she had two children, and then to Judge Jerry Sheindlin, whom she married in 1978, divorced in 1990, and then subsequently remarried in 1991.
