Biography: Hanif was considered one of the best batsmen in the world despite playing at a time when Pakistan played very little Test cricket.
As the first Pakistani to score a triple hundred in a Test match (337, 1st Test v West Indies in Bridgetown, Barbados 1958), he played 55 Tests with a batting average of 43.98 and 12 Test centuries.
In 1958–59, he surpassed Don Bradman's record for the highest individual first-class innings with 499 for Karachi against Bahawalpur. This stood for more than 35 years before being passed by Brian Lara in 1994.
After retiring from international cricket, Hanif co-founded the magazine "The Cricketer Pakistan" which he edited for two decades.
