Biography: Harold Robbins is one of the world's best-selling novelists, his books have sold over 750 million titles. Robbins's novels are fast-paced and usually centered on the rich and famous. Robbins's most famous and successful novel is "The Carpetbaggers" (1961) and like a number of his works, loosely based on a real person, in this case Howard Hughes.

Robbin's first novel was "Never Love a Stranger" published in 1948 and it was immediately successful. He produced new titles consistently until his final novel in 1997 and a number of his books were made into films. Robbins was famous for his international playboy lifestyle and links were often made between his real life and his work.
