Biography: Higdon is a an winning composer of contemporary classical music and music educator. She was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2010 and has won three Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Classical Composition (2010, 2018, and 2020). She was a professor of composition at Philadelphia's prestigious Curtis Institute of Music for over 25 years.

She grew up with little exposure to classical music and considers her approach to be more intuitive than classically structured. Her best known piece "blue cathedral" was written in memory of her brother. Other popular works include '"Light Refracted", "Harp Concerto", and the opera "Cold Mountain".
