Biography: Jimmy Buffett was an American singer-songwriter, musician, author, and businessman.

He is best known for his music, which often portrays an "island escapism" lifestyle. Buffett's music repertoire includes elements of country, pop, and rock. His longtime devotees are known as Parrot Heads.

Buffett was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi in 1946 and spent his early life in Mobile, Alabama. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied advertising, but dropped out to pursue a career in music. His 1971 song, "Margaritaville", became one of the most popular songs of all time.

Buffett has written several best-selling books, including "A Pirate Looks at Fifty", "Tales from Margaritaville", and "Where is Joe Merchant?".

He also founded the Margaritaville Cafe restaurant chain, and co-developed the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chain.
