Biography: Jules Massenet was a French composer of the late Romantic era, best known for his operas. His compositions were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of his operas are still performed today.

Massenet was born in 1842 in Montaud, France. He began his musical studies at a young age and was a student at the Paris Conservatory. He won the coveted Prix de Rome in 1863.

Massenet's operas are known for their melodic beauty and for their depiction of the emotions of love and passion. His best-known works include the operas "Manon" (1884), "Werther" (1892), and "Thaïs" (1894).

Massenet died in 1912 in Paris. His music continues to be popular and is regularly performed around the world.
