Biography: Li Na is a pioneering Chinese tennis player and the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam title. In 2011 she won the French Open, followed by the 2014 Australian Tennis Open.
Li Na turned profession in 1999 aged 16. She went on to win nine WTA tournaments, her first at the Guangzhou International Women's Open in 2004. In 2014 she reached her career high world ranking of No. 2. Li Na's success has been credited with a dramatic rise in the popularity of tennis in Asia. She retired in 2014 and was the first Asian player to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
