Biography: Martin Heidegger is regarded as one of the most important philosophers of the 20th century and one of its most controversial.

Heidegger's main focus was ontology or the study of being and addresses in his major work "Being and Time" published in 1927.

During the rise of Nazism Heidegger gave a series of lectures in support of Adolf Hitler and his party. In 1934 however Heidegger withdrew from politics and his work fell out of favour with the Nazi regime.
