Biography: Martin McDonagh is an Irish playwright, screenwriter, and director, celebrated for his darkly comedic and often violent works in both theatre and film.

He first gained international recognition for his plays, including The Beauty Queen of Leenane (1996), The Lonesome West (1997), and The Pillowman (2003), which have earned him numerous awards, such as the Tony Award for Best Play and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play.

In the world of cinema, McDonagh made his directorial debut with the short film Six Shooter (2004), which won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. His first feature film, In Bruges (2008), starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, was a critical success, earning McDonagh a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay.

He continued to gain accolades with his third feature film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), which won two Academy Awards for its lead actors, Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. McDonagh has most recently released The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), which also featured Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.
