Biography: Olof Palme was a two-time Prime Minister of Sweden, first from 1969 to 1976 and then again from 1982 to 1986. He was leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party during this period, from 1969 to 1986.
As a leader throughout the latter stages of the Cold War, Palme was controversial for his foreign policy which openly criticized imperialism on both sides.
Palme was assassinated in 1986 on a Stockholm street. He was walking home from the cinema with his wife when someone shot him in the back at close range.
