Biography: Pedro Sánchez is a Spanish politician and, since 2018, the Prime Minister of Spain. He has also held the office of Secretary-General for the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party since 2017 (and from 2014 to 2016).

Starting his political career in the local politics of Madrid as a city councillor, he was elected to the Congress of Deputies in 2009. Subsequently, Sánchez was elected Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party in 2014 as well as becoming Leader of the Opposition.

Sánchez came to power as Prime Minister after his party called for a vote of no confidence in then-Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. With this vote being passed, Sánchez became the new Prime Minister of Spain the next day. He has since also had success in the 2019 general election, in which his party gained 38 seats.
