Biography: Peter Burling is one of the best sailers in New Zealand sailing history.

As helmsman for Emirates Team New Zealand's 2017 America's Cup campaign, he became the youngest winning helmsman in the history of the event at age 26. He also won the 2021 America's Cup event in Auckland.

Burling was already a Kiwi sailing legend with an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class at the 2016 Games having won a silver medal in 2012, and he would add another at the 2020 Olympics.

Burling has won 9 World Championship gold medals including 6 in the 49er class, 2 in the 420 class as well as the 2015 Moth World title.

Along with 49er partner Blair Tuke, Burling was named male World Sailor of the Year in 2015, and also won the award solo in 2017. He was further honoured in 2020 with the Magnus Olsson prize "for an indelible contribution to the world of sailing."

Burling is a founder of Live Ocean, a NZ charity supporting promising marine science, innovation, technology and marine conservation projects.
