Biography: Pietro Badoglio was an Italian general during World War I and World War II. He further served in Italian East Africa, founded after the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, as the colony's first viceroy.

After the fall of the Fascist regime in Italy, moreover, and the fall of its leader Benito Mussolini, Badoglio went on to become the Prime Minister of Italy. He served in this role for only a year, from 1943 to 1944.

Badoglio was known for his advocacy and use of chemical weapons during the Italian invasion of Ethiopia. This led to the Italian use of mustard gas against the Ethiopian armies, with Badoglio eventually leading the victorious Italian forces into the capital city, Addis Ababa.
