Profession: Queen of the Netherlands

Nationality:
Netherlands
Dutch

Biography: Juliana was a Dutch monarch known who ascended to the throne in 1948. She reigned during a period of extensive change including post-war recovery and decolonization. Her approachability and investment in social welfare issues earned her an enduring popularity. Juliana abdicated in favor of her daughter, Beatrix, in 1980 and passed away in 2004.

Educated at the University of Leiden, Juliana was prepared from a young age for her future role as queen. She was installed in the Council of State, marking her preparation for monarchy. Juliana's marriage to Prince Bernhard resulted in four daughters, each playing a significant role during and after her reign.

World War II brought challenges, with Juliana seeking refuge in Canada as the Germans invaded the Netherlands. The birth of her daughter Margriet there strengthened Dutch-Canadian relations. After the war, Juliana took the throne, navigating decolonization and initiating welfare reforms.

Juliana's time as queen was turbulent, spotlighted by the Greet Hofmans affair and the controversial marriages of her daughters. Nonetheless, she maintained her popularity and was revered for her down-to-earth nature. After her abdication, she held various honorary titles until her death.
