Biography: Famous for his American clothing brand, Polo Ralph Lauren which he turned into a globally successful lifestyle brand.

Lauren began with his own line of ties in 1967 under the name Polo and started his own menswear line in 1968. A womenswear line followed in 1971. In 1974 his label received enormous attention after it dressed the cast of the film adaption of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby", which starred Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.

Lauren's clothes are a mix of the American classic east coast elite style and sporting attire. He is especially known for his revival of the 'polo' top, a short sleeved sports shirt he introduced in 1972.

Lauren went on to expand his business into homewares, retail and a children' line, creating a worldwide empire. He is the recipient of many awards in fashion including the American Fashion Legend Award in 2007.
