Biography: Richard Henry Lee played a key role in the American Revolution and the creation of the United States.

Lee came from a prominent family in Virginia and was educated in England. After returning to Virginia, he became involved in politics and was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1758.

In 1774, Lee was chosen as a delegate to the First Continental Congress. On June 7, 1776, during the Second Continental Congress, he proposed the Lee Resolution, which called for the colonies' independence from Great Britain. This resolution led to the drafting and adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which Lee signed.

Lee served as the President of the Continental Congress from 1784 to 1785. During his presidency, he supported funding the government through land sales in the Northwest Territory and opposed federal taxes.

From 1789 to 1792, Lee was a United States Senator from Virginia but he ultimately resigned due to health issues in 1792.
