Biography: Robert Morris was a merchant and financier who played a major role in supporting the American Revolution, helping to finance the Continental Army. Morris signed the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution.

During the Revolutionary War, Morris used his own money and credit to provide supplies for the army. He worked closely with George Washington and the Continental Congress to keep the war effort going. After the war, Morris was a member of the Pennsylvania legislature and the Constitutional Convention.

Morris served as a U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. He was involved in the creation of the First Bank of the United States. Later in life, however, Morris faced financial difficulties due to failed land speculations and spent time in debtors' prison before being released.
