Biography: Ricky Van Shelton was an American country music singer who had a series of hits during the late 1980s and early 1990s. His debut album Wild-Eyed Dream (1986) was pivotal to his rise in the country music scene. Shelton won the Country Music Association's (CMA) Horizon Award in 1988 and was inducted into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame in 2006.

Shelton moved to Nashville in 1984 where he was discovered after an audition with Columbia Records. His debut album Wild-Eyed Dream produced several hits, including the No. 1 "Somebody Lied". His following albums Loving Proof (1988) and RVS III (1990) continued his success with hits like "From a Jack to a King" and "I've Cried My Last Tear for You."

Beyond music, he wrote children's books such as Tales From a Duck Named Quacker. The 1990s brought changes with a shifting music scene and personal challenges, such as his battle with alcoholism. After leaving Columbia Records, he formed RVS Records and worked independently.

Shelton retired from touring in 2006 to focus on his personal life. His career concluded with several awards, critical acclaim, and a lasting influence on the country music genre. As of 2023, Ricky Van Shelton is retired from the music industry.
