Biography: As a journalist, Power covered the wars in the former Yugoslavia before becoming an academic focused on human tights policy.

Power became an earlier supporter and adviser of Barack Obama during the Democratic party's 2008 presidential primary. She retired from his campaign after famously referring to Hillary Clinton as "a monster".

This did not stop her joining the Obama transition team in 2008 and serving in a number of human rights related roles in the administration, culminating in her appointment as United States Ambassador to the United Nations in 2013.

Power is also the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning "A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide".
