Biography: Sinead O'Connor rose to fame in the late 1980s with her debut album “The Lion and the Cobra” and achieved worldwide success in 1990 with a new arrangement of Prince's song "Nothing Compares 2 U".
Despite several albums and various other musical projects since, her success with this song has not been repeated. However, she has managed to stay in the public eye by making controversial statements about religion and politics.
In a 1992 appearance on “Saturday Night Live” she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II while chanting the word “evil”, ostensibly as a protest against child abuse in the Catholic church. Controversy followed.
