Biography: Carole King began her long career in music as a songwriter, with her husband Gerry Goffin providing lyrics. Early hits included "Chains" (for The Cookies, later recorded by the Beatles) and "The Loco-Motion" (for their babysitter "Little" Eva [Boyd]). Later in the 60s, they wrote "Take Good Care of My Baby" (for Bobby Vee); "Up on the Roof" (for the Drifters); "One Fine Day" (for the Chiffons); "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (for the Monkees); and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" (for Aretha Franklin).

King and Goffin divorced in 1968, and she eventually began recording her own songs. Her 1971 album "Tapestry" topped the charts for 15 weeks, won 4 Grammy Awards, and has sold over 30 million copies.

She has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: in 1990 for her early songwriting, and in 2021 as a performer.

She has worked as an environmental and women's rights activist.

In 2013, "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" was developed using song from throughout her career for Broadway. It ran for 5 years, winning a Grammy, 2 Tony, and 3 Drama Desk Awards.
