Biography: Commoner made good, he was appointed as Archbishop by King Henry II; they argued over Church privileges, and Becket was killed by four knights who took the king at his words "Who will rid me of this troublesome priest?"

Subsequently canonized by Pope Alexander III. The king made public penance at Canterbury Cathedral.
