Biography: Lester was best known for his role as Eb Dawson on "Green Acres."

He is said to have won this role against 400 other applicants because Dawson was a farmhand and he was the only applicant that knew how to milk a cow, having grown up on a farm in Mississippi.

Thanks to this role, which became regular because of his popular performance, Lester soon became a household name.

Ultimately "Green Acres" was cancelled in 1971, falling victim to the "rural purge" in which many American networks cut rural themes from their programming.
