Biography: Director of Central Intelligence from 1981 to 1987.

In this capacity he oversaw the entire United States Intelligence Community and personally directed the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the final years of the cold war and during the Iran-contra scandal.

Casey was also Ronald Reagan's campaign manager during his 1980 campaign and was instrumental in getting George H. W. Bush on the ticket as vice presidential nominee.

In 1986 Casey was hospitalized a day before he was due to testify to US Congress in the Iran-Contra Affair. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour and died the next year.
