Biography:Yoshihide Suga was first elected to Japan's House of Representatives in 1996. After becoming a close ally of Shinzo Abe Suga was elected to cabinet in 2006 when Abe became Prime Minister.
Suga served the country's longest-ever term as Chief Cabinet Secretary from 2012-2020, after which when he succeeded Abe as Prime Minister and as head of the Liberal Democratic Party.
