Biography: Zaheer Abbas was a Pakistani cricketer known for his prolific scoring and stylish play. His distinguished career included achieving the milestone of three consecutive centuries in one-day internationals.

Abbas made his Test debut in 1969, marking his entry into international cricket. His second Test featured a remarkable performance where he scored 274 runs against England.

During his career, he was one of the few cricketers who wore spectacles on the field. His association with the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club lasted from 1972 to 1985, and his leadership as the captain of the Pakistani national team was seen in two stints during the 1980s. He retired from international cricket in 1985.

Among Abbas's established records were four Test double-centuries and the record for the most runs in a 4-match bilateral ODI series held from 1982 to 2015. He was one of two batsmen to score their hundredth first-class century in a Test match.

Recognition of his cricketing achievements came through his induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2020 and the PCB Hall of Fame in 2021, as well as receiving the Pride of Performance Award from the Government of Pakistan in 1971.

His personal life included marriage to Rita Luthra, known as Samina Abbas, in 1988, and a previous marriage to Najma Bokhari, with whom he had three daughters.

After retiring, Abbas continued to influence cricket as a match referee and as the manager of the Pakistani national team. He also co-authored his autobiography, Zed (1983), with British cricket journalist David Foot.
