Cardi B became the first solo female artist to win Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammys for her debut album "Invasion of Privacy". Only Lauryn Hill, then part of the Fugees had won before in 1997.
The success of women artists was the story of the 2019 Grammys with country singer Kacey Musgraves winning Best Album, Dua Lipa Best New Artist and Lady Gaga taking away three awards. The results came one year after Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow infamously said women needed to "step up".
