Biography: Alan Rickman was an English actor, best known for his performed as the antagonist Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1986). He achieved an entirely new level of fame when he played Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series (2001-2011).

Rickman also played more comedic roles, as in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), and romantic roles, as in Love Actually (2003).

Alongside his film and television career, Rickman was trained theatre actor who had his start in the West End and on Broadway. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his role as the Vicomte de Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
