Biography: Annie Leibovitz known for her portraits of celebrities. Her most well-known work is a photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono taken on the day Lennon was killed, which was used on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

Leibovitz was born in 1949 in Connecticut where she was one of six children. Her father worked in the Air Force and her mother taught dance.

Leibovitz later went to art school in San Francisco to study painting but soon changed to photography. In 1970, she started working for Rolling Stone magazine. She would ultimately work there for 10 years and became the head photographer in 1973.

During her career, Leibovitz has taken photos of many famous people for magazines like Vanity Fair and Vogue. She has also made well-known advertising photos for companies. From 1989 to 2004, Leibovitz was in a relationship with the writer Susan Sontag.

Leibovitz has received honors for her work, such as being named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress. She was the first woman to have her own show at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
