Biography: John Herschel was an English polymath, perhaps best known as the inventor of the blueprint; a process which allowed the rapid duplication of technical and engineering draws by using a photosensitive compound.

Herschel was further prominent in astronomy, naming the seven moons of Saturn and four moons of Uranus. The latter planet, Uranus, had in fact been discovered by his father Sir William Herschel.

Alongside mathematical and theoretical contributions, Herschel was also involved in photographic and optical studies as well as botanical work.
