Biography: Ashraf Ghani is an Afghan politician who served as the President of Afghanistan until the country fell to the Taliban in 2021.

Ghani is a graduate of Columbia University, where he earned his Ph.D. in anthropology. He has worked as a professor at Johns Hopkins University and as a World Bank economist.

Ghani served as Afghanistan's Finance Minister from July 2002 to December 2004. He was also a candidate in the 2009 Afghan presidential election, finishing second behind Hamid Karzai.

Ghani was first elected as President of Afghanistan in 2014, and he was re-elected in 2019.
