Biography:Longstanding drama critic for The New York Times, Atkinson worked for the newspaper from 1922-1960.
Atkinson's reviews were very influential and could make or break a show. He was a supporter of off-Broadway and new American playwrights and was an early admirer of Eugene O'Neill's work.
During WWII he served as a war correspondent and after the war as the paper's Moscow correspondent, earning a Pulitzer Prize for foreign correspondence in 1947.
