Biography: Cool Papa Bell was an American baseball player who played center field in Negro league baseball. Known for his speed and skill, Bell is considered one of the greatest players in the history of the Negro leagues. His lightning-fast playing style made him a dominant figure on the field and earned him his nickname, "Cool Papa."

Bell played for multiple Negro league teams throughout his career, which spanned from 1922 to 1946. Among the teams he played for were the St. Louis Stars, the Pittsburgh Crawfords, and the Homestead Grays. He played in numerous Negro League World Series and was known as a consistent base-stealer, reputed to have stolen 175 bases in a 200-game season.

Bell's incredible speed was a central part of his legend. Stories about his speed became the stuff of folklore, including tales that he could turn off the light switch and be in bed before the room got dark, or that he once hit a ball up the middle and was struck by the ball as he slid into second base.
