Biography: Dan Rather is an American journalist and news anchor. Rather rose to fame in the 1960s when he became a correspondent for CBS News. He was assigned to the White House after his early work, including reporting on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Rather reported on some of the biggest news stories of the era, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9/11. Rather was the anchor of the CBS Evening News from 1981 to 2005.

Rather's career in journalism was highly successful. He has won numerous awards during his time as a reporter and anchor, including three several Peabody Awards and Emmy Awards.

He has also authored several books, including The Palace Guard (1974), People Like Us: The Washington Post Investigates (1989), and Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News (2012).
