Biography: The English director's first success was the film thriller "Shallow Grave" (1994) starring Ewan McGregor which won Best British film at the BAFTAs. He followed it up with Trainspotting (1996) and the zombie horror film "28 Days Later" (2002).
His 2008 film "Slumdog Millionaire" starring Dev Patel was the most successful British film of the decade and was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning Best Director for Boyle. He has since followed it up with the biopic "Steve Jobs" based on the life of the Apple founder and a 2017 sequel to Trainspotting.
In 2012 Boyle was widely praised for his role as artistic director for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, featuring Queen Elizabeth II and Daniel Craig as James Bond.
