Biography: Doug Sahm was a musical polyglot who combined western swing, power pop, rock, country, and Tejano music into his sound. His notable groups include the Sir Douglas Quintet and the Texas Tornados.

As a child prodigy on the steel guitar, he appeared on the radio program 'Louisiana Hayride' at age 8. He would gain proficiency on the guitar, piano, mandolin, and fiddle and made his first record as "Little Doug" as a young teen.

In the mid-sixties, he formed a rock group called the "Sir Douglas Quintet, in an attempt to ride the coattails of the British Invasion. The group was noted for the prominent Vox Continental organ played by Augie Meyers and had several hit records, including "She's About A Mover" and "Mendocino".

Relocating from Texas to San Francisco, added some psychedelic influence to Sahm's arsenal. He befriended Jerry Garcia and Bob Dyaln during these years. Returning to Texas, he worked continuously as a performer, and as a producer for other artists, but with little commercial success.

In the late 80's, he found the spotlight again by organizing the supergroup "Texas Tornados" featuring Freddy Fender, Flaco Jiménez, Augie Meyers, and himself. The group recorded several albums, won a Grammy Award, and performed during Bill Clinton's presidential inauguration festivities.
