Biography: Ernest Borgnine was an American actor whose career spanned over six decades in film and television. He gained fame for his role as the good-hearted but gruff Marty Piletti in Marty (1955), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

In addition to his success on the big screen, Borgnine was also known for his work in television, most notably as the lead character, Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale, in the popular series "McHale's Navy."

Borgnine's contributions to acting were recognized with various honors, including a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2011.
