Profession: American Revolutionary War Patriot
Biography: Ethan Allen was an early American farmer and writer, best known as a founder of the state of Vermont. He was also involved with the Green Mountain Boys and led them in the capture of Fort Ticonderoga early in the Revolutionary War. Allen's early efforts were key in establishing the independence-oriented spirit that defined this region.
In addition to his military achievements, Allen was an influential figure in the early political history of Vermont. He played a leading role in the efforts of the Vermont Territory to gain independent admission to the United States. Despite facing numerous challenges, including internal disputes and pressure from neighboring states, his persistence laid the groundwork for Vermont's eventual statehood.
