Biography:Robespierre was one of the best known figures of the French Revolution. As a member of Estates-General and later as a member of the Committee of Public Safety, he was an important part of the bloodletting associated with the Committee's Reign of Terror.
Though his personal responsibility for the executions of the Terror remain a subject of debate, Robespierre was known as The Incorruptible for his eloquent defense of his left-wing beliefs.
During the Thermidorian Reaction, Robespierre himself was arrested and executed by guillotine.
