Biography: Gabby Hartnett is an American professional baseball catcher and manager who played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was a member of the Chicago Cubs for 16 of those seasons, and was one of the most respected players of his era. He was known for his strong defense, great leadership, and powerful batting.

Hartnett began his career in 1922 with the Chicago Cubs, and was an immediate success. In 1930, he was selected to the National League All-Star team and won the NL Most Valuable Player award. He was also a three-time NL All-Star and a two-time NL home run leader. In 1932, Hartnett hit the famous "Homer in the Gloamin'" to help the Cubs clinch the NL Pennant.

After his retirement from playing in 1941, Hartnett was hired as the Cubs' manager, a position he held until his death in 1972. His leadership and knowledge of the game helped the Cubs to four National League Pennants and two World Series appearances. Hartnett was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955.
