Biography: Gary Sinise is an American actor, director, and musician. He co-founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and is celebrated for his roles in films such as Forrest Gump (1994) and Apollo 13 (1995), as well as his Emmy-winning performances in Truman (1995) and George Wallace (1997).

In 1974, Sinise co-founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company with Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry, developing it into an important venue for American theater. He won an Obie Award for directing True West in 1982 and has also earned Tony Award nominations.

In terms of cinema, Sinise's portrayal of Lieutenant Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump garnered him an Academy Award nomination and enduring public affection. He also starred in The Green Mile (1999), again alongside Tom Hanks.

Sinise also worked in television, where he gained recognition for his roles as Harry S. Truman and the title character in George Wallace. He is also known for his long-term role as Detective Mac Taylor in CSI: NY (2004–2013).

Beyond entertainment, Sinise founded the Lt. Dan Band to entertain service members globally and established the Gary Sinise Foundation to aid veterans. His contributions have been honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal and recognition as an honorary U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer.

Married to Moira Harris since 1981, Sinise is a father to three children and faced the tragic loss of his son, Mac, in 2024. He has shown political engagement through Friends of Abe and has supported various Republican candidates, excluding Donald Trump in 2016.
