Biography: John Astin is an American actor and director, best known for playing Gomez Addams in The Addams Family (1964-1966) as well as voicing the same character in the animated series The Addams Family (1992-1993).

Astin has also starred in a number of film roles, including West Side Story (1961), Freaky Friday (1976), and The Frighteners (1996). Additionally he took on tour the one-man play Edgar Allan Poe: Once Upon a Midnight (1998-2004).

Upon retiring, Astin worked as a theater director and professor at Johns Hopkins University from 2001 to 2021.
