Biography: Hack Wilson was an American Major League Baseball player who had a 12-season career with teams like the New York Giants, Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies. Known for his powerful hitting, he became one of baseball's most accomplished sluggers in the late 1920s and early 1930s. His 1930 season with the Cubs is remembered for 56 home runs and a record 191 runs batted in (RBI), a feat that remains unsurpassed.

Wilson's early life in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, was challenging due to his family's circumstances. He started working at a young age and eventually moved into baseball, first in minor leagues and then progressing to the majors. His MLB debut was in 1923, for the New York Giants. Wilson's physique, short and stout, was unusual for a baseball player but didn't hinder his performance on the field.

Wilson's time with the Chicago Cubs was particularly notable. He led the National League in home runs for several seasons and was a key player in the Cubs' success during this period. His off-field life was tumultuous, however, marked by alcohol consumption and confrontations. These issues, coupled with a change in management and playing strategies, led to a decline in his performance.

After leaving the Cubs, Wilson played briefly for other teams but never regained his earlier form. He retired from professional baseball in the mid-1930s and struggled in his post-baseball life, facing financial difficulties and health issues. Wilson passed away in 1948, but he was inducted posthumously into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.
