Biography: Jack Hobbs is regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen in cricket history.

He is the leading run-scorer and century-maker in first-class cricket with 61,760 runs and 199 centuries playing county cricket for Surry 1905-1934 and in 61 Tests for England 1908-1930.

In Test cricket, Hobbs scored 5,410 runs with an outstanding batting average of 56.94 including 15 centuries, 28 fifties and a top score of 211.

After a long and distinguished first class playing career he worked in journalism and in 1953 he became the first professional cricketer to be knighted.
